Separation as to property

The matrimonial regime of separation as to property does not create any parternship of property or community of property between the spouses. They remain the owners of their own property, whether acquired before or during the marriage or civil union. Like the matrimonial regime of partnership of acquests, the regime of separation as to property remains subject to the rules governing the family patrimony. Spouses can elect the regime of separation as to property only by signing a marriage or civil union contract before a notary.
