What documents are required to file a declaration of inheritance?

To prepare a declaration of inheritance , the following documents are usually required, depending on the circumstances:

  • Certificate or copy of death certificate ;
  • Certificates of testamentary search ( Chamber of Notaries and Barreau du Québec );
  • Civil status documents allowing the establishment of family ties;
  • Marriage or civil union contract , if applicable;
  • Any will found , even if it is inapplicable;
  • Two valid forms of identification for the signatories.

Other documents may be required depending on the specifics of the estate , for example judgments, proof of residence, bank documents or prior deeds.
