Some examples of problems related to the contracts and Terms of Use of service providers.

As regard email accounts, Bell and Videotron were implementing, in 2013, a policy of closing the email accounts and automatic destruction of data and documents contained therein as soon as they learned of a user's death. For its part, Gmail was refusing, in 2013, the deletion of a deceased's mailbox even at the request of his succession.

The outright deletion can cause the loss of numerous data in an email account, except for emails already downloaded to the deceased's computer. Faced with this situation, what is then the recommended solution? We recommend to convey to a trusted person the IDs and passwords for these accounts so that the liquidator of a succession can access the contents of the deceased's mailbox and make a back up of all the data before informing these service providers of the user's death.

As for social networks, Twitter, in 2013, did not allow anyone to access the account of a deceased user.
