What is a real estate transfer declaration?

The declaration of real estate transmission is notarial act published in the Quebec Land Registry when owner of a building dies.

Its purpose is to formalize and legally bind parties to the transfer of ownership of the deceased's property to their or heirs. It does not constitute a sale and does not entail voluntary transfer of ownership; it simply records that is transferred due to death.
