Why choose a numbered name rather than a name?

Both in Canada and in Québec, it is possible, for reasons of rapidity, to choose a numbered name (called a designating number in the federal jurisdiction). Such a choice avoids the necessity to make searches concerning the legality of the selected name (called a corporate name in the federal jurisdiction).
