Registration of a vessel requires certain formalities. You must be able to provide certain documents to Transport Canada (application for registration form, Builder's certificate, Bill of sale, etc.) and, in most cases, proceed with establishing the tonnage of the vessel. The competent authorities also requires that a complete sequence of the vessel's title be established without any ambiguity. Once the required formalities for the vessel registration are fulfilled, the Chief Registrar will issue a Certificate of Registry. When using the vessel, the Certificate of Registry shall at all times be in the vessel for identification purposes.
