Vessels that are equal to or do not exceed 15 tons gross tonnage are considered to be small vessels and are not subject to a mandatory registration in the Canadian Register of Vessels. The owner of this type of vessel can still decide to voluntarily register it in order to take advantage of all the benefits arising out of a registration in the Canadian Register of Vessels.
The owner of a non-registered pleasure craft must, however, obtain a pleasure craft licence to use it.
You must remember that if your pleasure craft is already registred, it will not be possible for you to obtain a pleasure craft licence afterward, unless you apply for the cancellation of your pleasure craft registration.
