The release or discharge is a document by which a mortgage lender acknowledges to have been partially or fully repaid for the sums that it has made available to the debtor. The discharge will enable the publication of mortgage cancellation.
The mere repayment of the mortgage debt, even when it is acknowledged by the mortgage lender, does not legally constitute a discharge.
