What works can be the subject of a copyright?

Three other types of objects can be protected under the Copyright Act; it is the performances, signals of communication and sound recordings.

  • The actors, singers, dancers and musicians have copyrights on their performances.
  • The broadcasters have too copyrights on the signals of communication which they communicate through broadcasting.
  • The producers of recordings such as records, cassettes or compact discs, qualified as "sound recordings", can also be protected within the framework of the Copyright Act. In this last case, it is advisable to note that the song and its recording are considered as two different works in the eyes of the law.
