What are the works that can be protected by a copyright in Canada?

Copyright can protect any original work, whether it is a literary, dramatic, musical or artistic work. Let us give some examples of such works of creation:

  • It can involve literary works such as books, pamphlets, poems, computer programs, etc.
  • It can also involve dramatic works, for example, films, videos, plays, screenplays or scripts.
  • Copyright can allow you to protect musical works whether they are constituted by music and lyrics or by music alone. Lyrics without music rather belong to the category of literary works.
  • Artistic works, such as paintings, drawings, maps, photos, sculptures and architectural works, can also be the subject of a copyright.
