An author can assign his copyrights to a third party, but he retains his "moral rights" in the work. This means that nobody, including the third party to whom copyrights would have been assigned, can distort, mutilate or alter the work in a manner prejudicial to the honor or the reputation of the author.
The author of the work cannot sell or transfer these moral rights, he can however waive it when he sells or transfers his copyrights. The waiver of moral rights can be made at the time of the transfer or afterwards.
