Only an adult who is insured under the Health Insurance Act, capable of consenting to medical care, and diagnosed with a serious and incurable illness leading to incapacity may submit an advance request for medical assistance in dying. The request must be made freely and in an informed manner and does not, in and of itself, guarantee that medical assistance in dying will be provided.
