In case of doubt about the existence of a life insurance policy in the name of the deceased, what are the recommended steps ?

  • Check all the storage spaces (wardrobes, closets, lockers, etc.) where it would be possible to find a copy of such policies or any other important document;
  • Examine the bank statements and look for premium payments;
  • Contact the life insurance broker of the deceased;
  • Contact the employer of the deceased to know the different insurance coverage plans (disability insurance and/or group life insurance) to which he/she could have been subject;
  • Contact all the associations of which the deceased was a member, regardless of whether they are professional or other types of associations;
  • Check with credit card companies to find out if the deceased had subscribed for a life insurance or insurance in case of death;
  • If the death occurred during a trip, check whether his/her trip insurance provided death benefits.
