During the course of a transaction, is a boat inspection mandatory?

No, there is no legal requirement to have a vessel inspected at the time of its registration or upon a sale transaction or marine financing, but a prudent and diligent buyer would want to have the vessel inspected by an accredited marine expert. Failing an inspection, the seller may plead the negligence of the buyer as a defence argument in the case of an action against the seller. Note that a lender or insurer may require a recent marine survey report.
