Must I give a name to my boat?

The Canada Shipping Act, 2001 states that registered vessels must carry a name and that the name of such a vessel must satisfy the requirements provided therein. Thus, any vessel, except for the one to be registered in the Small Vessel Register, must be named in the form and manner specified by the Chief Registrar before being registered or listed. The owner of a pleasure craft for which a pleasure craft licence was issued is not obliged to give it a name but cannot use said pleasure craft unless it is marked with the licence number.
