Progressive discipline

Before dismissing an employee, the CNESST advocates the observance by the employer of the principle of progressive discipline or gradual of sanctions against the employee, namely:

1. verbal warning;
2. written warning or reminder;
3. short-term suspension with or without pay;
4. long-term suspension with or without pay;
5. demotion or "transfer" of the employee.
