Staking bench-mark

A staking marker is an object planted in the ground to indicate the boundaries or limits of a lot (piece of land). Its forms and dimensions are described in the Regulation respecting bench-marks and boundary markers, under the Land Surveyors Act. The staking marker must be metalic, be of square or circular cross-section, not be hollowed out or not be treated against corrosion if already empty, must measure at least 60 centimeters in length and 15 millimeters in diameter or of side, have a cuff of at least 3 centimeters of side or a cap of at least 5 centimeters in diameter, fixed permanently to its superior end, on which are engraved the minimal following informations: land surveyor's surname, initial, his name followed by the letters « a.-g. », and to be easily found, either by the fact that it exceeds the ground, by the fact it can be detected by a metal detector or by the fact that its position is sufficiently described from other physical details written in the notes of the land surveyor.
