The Records is first the physical place where notaries and surveyors keep their minutes. This physical place must obey specific rules of maintenance and preservation against disasters.
More broadly, "the records" will describe all of these documents. The professional who dies or ceases to practice will be able to transfer his "records" to a colleague who will physically keep it in another place. The new owner of the records may issue copies of the minutes of the deceased notary or land surveyor.
