The cadastre is a register of the Quebec government that represents and identifies the territorial base of land ownerships through the most densely populated part of Quebec. This part of Quebec was, during the mid-nineteenth century, divided into registration divisions. These registration divisions are further divided into smaller units which, depending on the region, can be parishes, townships, cities or neighborhoods. These units are further divided into land lots bearing a number and for which a land file is opened in the registry office of each of the registration divisions of Quebec. The cadastre also allows the publication of real rights (sales, mortgages, servitudes, etc.)
