There are 73 land registry offices in Quebec, one for each registration division. The registry office maintains a land register for immovable properties located in the registration division. Each of these immovable properties has a file on which the registrar registered bills of sale, mortgages, declarations of transmission, servitudes, discharges that affect the immovable. Until 1994, that is, until the entry into force of the Civil Code of Québec, these offices were called land registry offices.
