Case law consists of all Legal principles enunciated and embodied in judicial decisions of higher courts, and which are derived from the application of particular areas of law to the facts of individual cases. There is, in Canada, a court hierarchy and, therefore, a hierarchy of decisions of these courts. A decision of the Court of Appeal of Quebec will be more important than a decision of the Superior Court, and a ruling by the Supreme Court of Canada will be more important than a decision of the Court of Appeal of Quebec .
