Clearance certificate

A clearance certificate, issued by the tax authorities, confirms that the estate of a deceased person has paid all taxes, sales taxes, interest and penalties owed at the time the certificate was issued.
A clearance certificate allows the liquidator to distribute assets without risking personal liability for any unpaid amounts the deceased may owe to the tax authorities.
