Can the celebration of our marriage take place abroad?

You can get married abroad, but you must know that the formalities could turn out to be heavier and more complex than those required by the Registrar of civil status.

In several cases, you will have to translate your Quebec documents of ID, to authenticate them through the consulate or embassy of the country in which the celebration of your marriage will take place, to find on site witnesses for the celebration of marriage, etc.

The marriage certificate issued by the civil status of the country in question will be in most of the cases in a foreign language, you will thus have to obtain a translation prepared by a recognized translator to be able to use this certificate here.

Moreover, to obtain copies of your marriage certificate issued by a foreign government, you will have to address yourself to the consulate or embassy of this country. You will thus have to take into consideration additional delays.
