How to obtain the BOMA BESt certification?

The owners of commercial buildings must at first get in touch with their local association (see BOMA Québec). After having achieved this first step, they can register their immovable properties by going on the website of BOMA BESt and by creating their user ID.

The expenses may vary depending upon the type or size of the immovable property as well as to the membership or not to the BOMA association. When the local association will have validated your application, you will be able to use the online evaluation module of BOMA BESt. The online BOMA BESt evaluation includes two main elements: the best practices (14 questions in all) and the complete questionnaire (more than 175 questions). At each question on the best practices, we will be asked to answer "Yes" or "No" or "Equivalent to BOMA BESt".

This component is then followed by the complete questionnaire for the selected module (for example, office buildings, shopping centers, multi-residential buildings).

In the following months, your application will be the subject of a verification on the spot with justificatory files in support of the information supplied on the site of BOMA BESt. Based on the visit of the building and the comments of the verifier, the score obtained under the questionnaire completed on the site of BOMA BESt will be adjusted.

The final score obtained determines the level of the certification BOMA BESt (let us remind that there are four (4) certification levels in the program BOMA BESt). Without taking into account the score, all the best practices must be respected to obtain the certification. BOMA BESt certification is valid for three years and renewable at the end of this term. Participants who make a new application have the option to certify again their immovable properties and post the former evaluations by using their initial user ID and password.
