What is a staking?

Staking is consisting of all the operations made by the land surveyor to give, by means of bench-marks, his opinion on the limits of an immovable property. It is valid for the sole benefit of the person who asked for the staking.

The land surveyor will not put any bench-marks if he notices that a limit established in the framework of his staking comes to disturb the occupancy of the premises. The operation of staking and the determination of limits remain however valid and the staking certificate issued is accompanied by a report explaining the situation.

The operations of staking are supervised by the Regulation Respecting Standards of Practice for Location Certificates of the Ordre des arpenteurs-géomètres du Québec .
