Since your accounts with different service providers will remain active after your death, it is strongly recommended to plan from now on the fate that you want to reserve for them by providing a stipulation for this purpose in your Will. It is important for you to plan what will happen to your virtual assets and organize yourself regarding this subject during your lifetime and that, in order to avoid tedious steps to your close relatives; it will also allow you to plan to whom your virtual assets will be passed on as an inheritance.
So, you can decide in your Will that: 1) your accounts will have to be closed and that, by following the procedures established by your suppliers or by respecting their restrictions; or 2) the data related to your accounts will have to be recovered in order to be passed on subsequently to your heirs before your accounts are closed by following the procedures provided for this purpose.
If you want your data to be recovered, you will however have to make available to your heirs or the liquidator of your succession your IDs, access codes and passwords for each of your accounts so that they can access it and recover the information contained therein if your suppliers have not planned a policy to return them your data and your documents and files which, in 2015, represents the vast majority of cases.
In anticipation of incapacity, it is important for you to plan, by signing a protection mandate in case of incapacity while you are still capable, what will happen to your accounts and your documents and files if you become incapacitated and that, to avoid tedious steps to your mandatary to property. You can then decide in your mandate that your mandatary to property must close your accounts by following the procedures of your suppliers regarding this subject or still, that he will continue to administer it.
If you wish that your mandatary to property continues to administer your virtual assets, you will then have to take the necessary measures to provide him with your IDs, access codes and passwords for each of your accounts so that he can access it and continue to administer your virtual assets.
