All your virtual assets belong to you, including your IDs, access codes and passwords, the information contained in your email accounts and the documents attached to these ones, all the files that you put on the Web and the information posted on the social networks on which you are registered or of which you are a member, subject to any restrictions that could have been imposed upon you when opening an account.
Indeed, some service providers indicate in their contract or their Terms of Use that they remain owners of everything that you will put in the accounts which you will have opened with them. It is therefore very important to read attentively the contents of the agreement with a service provider before signing a contract with the latter or accepting the Terms of Use which it imposes to you by means of a "contract by click ".
These virtual assets are part of your patrimony, in the same way as a house or condominium or still, as your car, your bank account, your investments in securities or mutual funds; you are the owner and these ones are strictly within your authority. So, you can pass on your virtual assets to your heirs in case of death and these assets can be administered either by your mandatary to property or by your tutor or curator in case of incapacity.
Also, the information contained in your email accounts (especially if you are an entrepreneur or self-employed), your IDs, access codes and passwords are confidential, subject to any law authorizing the service providers concerned to disclose this information in certain specific circumstances. However, it is necessary to make an exception for the email account that belongs to your employer and whom you use within the framework of your job; this account will continue to belong to your employer and we recommend you not to use it for a personal use.
It is therefore important to protect these virtual assets if those ones have a value for you and thus to plan their passing on at your death as you would do for tangible property or still, to plan their administration in the event of your incapacity.
