What is the advantage of having a marriage contract?

With a marriage contract, the spouses can, at first, adapt their matrimonial regime to the different needs of the couple. The chosen matrimonial regimes can even be unnamed regimes, that is to say a modification of one of the existing regimes or even a foreign matrimonial regime. Marriage contract, in addition to clearly reflect the intentions of the future spouses, allows an enumeration of all the property owned by the spouses at the date of marriage. This enumeration which seems harmless can turn out to be very useful in the case of contestation or dissolution of the marriage. Marriage contracts finally have the peculiarity to be able to contain certain gifts in consideration of the marriage, gifts which can have effect only by means of such a contract.
