What are the different types of trusts?

A Trust is generally created:

  • for personal reasons to secure benefits for a determinate or determinable person (personal trust);
  • for specific private purposes to make profits (private trust);
  • for social reasons such as supporting cultural, educational, philanthropic, religious or scientific interests (social trust).

A Trust is either an "inter vivos" trust (living trust), such as a family trust, asset protection trust or alter ego trust, or a "testamentary" trust.
